"Hope Macaulay's "A Surreal Rome" catwalk collection, featured at Graduate Fashion Week, New Designers, Salon International and London Fashion Week, is not a representation of reality but a world in which you may find in your dreams, inspired by the history, myths and art of Rome. She created her own mythical beings in a hallucinatory world through large expressive paintings and distorted, collaged photographs. These have been combined into colourful busy prints, detailed beadings and chunky knits to create a powerful visual of A Surreal Rome within the garments. Hope Macaulay garments are busy, bold and colourful experiences, each telling a surreal story."
The Angel Dress
The colourful Angel ball gown dress with wings is a magical showstopper that has large expensive paintings and photographic images as the print on satin, handmade detailed beadings and embroidery using a mixture of textiles, pearls, beads and mirror.
The Angel Dress is inspired by the angels, cherubs and mythical creatures of ancient Rome. The beading on the bodice of the dress is directly inspired by the mythical seahorses with wings on the interiors of the Palazzo Doria Pamphiljj. The print on the wings are drawings and paintings of angels and brush strokes influenced by the feathers on their wings.
